Notes: Isabella Elliott Beattie, known as Isabel or Belle, was born in St. Marys, Perth, Ontario on 26 Feb 1881. She was the daughter of James Beattie and Isabella Elliott Armstrong. According to census records, she immigrated to the United States in either 1889 or 1890. According to the 1940 USA census, she completed 5 years of school. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
In the 1900 U.S. census, Isabel was a servant in the household of
Henry and Mathilda Detwiller, Tyrol Twp., Griggs, North Dakota. She married Andrew
Mathieson Detwiller, one of their sons on 25 Mar 1903. In the 1910 U.S. census, Isabel and Andrew had three children, namely Harold, born in 1903. Myrtle, 1904, and Vivian, 1908. Isabel's last son, Ronald, was born in 1915. Andrew was a grain farmer. Isabel was active in Eastern Star, the Presbyterian Ladies Aid, and the Tyrol Homemakers Club. Isabel's husband Andrew died 8 Feb 1937. In the 1940 U.S. census, she was living on the farm as the farm operator, with only her son Ronald. Isabel died 13 Jul 1961, in the local hospital in Cooperstown, 24 years after her husband's death. She was 80 years of age. The services were held in the Presbyterian Church, Cooperstown, the Rev. H.R. Senecal officiating. Isabel is buried with her husband in the Cooperstown Cemetery, Cooperstown, North Dakota. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
