Notes: Joy Stewart was born 8 Jan 1930 in Hinckley, Millard, Utah.
She was the ninth of eleven children of George Lyle Stewart and Clara May Walker. Her
father George was a farmer. Her older siblings were Delna, born in Feb 1914; Norma in
Oct 1915; Walker in May 1918; George Lyle in Nov 1919; Florence in Nov 1921; then Mary;
Melba Jean in Aug 1925, Reed Murdoch in Sep 1927. In the 1930 U.S. census, Joy was living with her family on Side Street N.S. in Hinckley, Millard, Utah. The family owned their residence, and her father George was a general farmer. The children were Delna, 16, Norma, 14, Walker D., 11, George L., 9, Florence, 8, Mary, 6, Melba Jean, 4, Reid M., 2, and Joy, 3 months. All but the youngest three children attended school. Her brother Duane Walker was born in Nov 1932. Her brother Walker came down with influenza, then pneumonia in Nov 1932. He died just two weeks after the birth of her brother Duane. One more brother, Carl Don was born in May 1937. In the 1940 U.S. census, Joy was living with her family in Hinckley, Millard, Utah. Her parents owned their farm, valued at $1,500., and were living in the same house as in 1935. Her father George was a farmer, had completed four years of high school, and had earned $240. in 1939. Her mother Clara had completed one year of college. The children at home were G. Lyle, 20, one year of college, working as a high school janitor, and had earned $175. in 1939; Florence, 18, three years of high school; Mary, 16, one year of high school, working as a janitor for the church school, and had earned $5. in 1939; Melba Jean, 14, 8th grade; Reed M., 12, 6th grade; Joy, 10, 4th grade; Duane W., 7; and Don, 2. All of the children except Don attended school. Joy graduated from Branch Agricultrual College, Cedar City, Utah. On 1 May 1952, Joy Stewart, 22, of Hinckley, married Myron W. Christensen, 24, of Oak City, in the Manti LDS Temple, Manti, Sanpete, Utah. They had a family of five children. Their son Ken Stewart died as an infant in Oct 1960. Joy and Myron made their home in Oak City, Millard, Utah. In 1962 they moved to Salt Lake City where her husband was a machinist for the Tooele Army Depot. Joy worked as a nurse assistant, receptionist and was a piano teacher for over 50 years. Upon retirement in 1991, they moved to West Jordan, Salt Lake, Utah. Joy was an active member of the LDS Church, and with her husband served in the Tallahassee Mission in 2000 - 2001. Joy's husband Myron died 7 Feb 2003. Joy died 11 Jun 2012. Services were held 18 Jun 2012 in the Crosspointe Ward, South Murray, UT. She was buried with her husband in the Redwood Memorial Estates, West Jordan, Salt Lake, Utah. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
