In Jun 1917 when George registered for the World War I draft, they were
living in Hinckley, Millard, Utah. George was a farmer, and they had two children.
Two sons were added to the family, Walker Duncan in May 1918, and George Lyle Jr. in Nov 1919. In the 1920 U.S. census, George Stewart and his wife Clara Stewart were living in Hinckley, Millard, Utah. They owned their residence with a mortgage. George was a farmer, doing general farming. The family lived in town, but farmed outside of town on a 40 acre and a 100 acre plot of land. Their children were Delna, 5, Norma, 4, Walker D., 1, and George L., 2 months. Five more children were born to George and Clara. These were Florence in Nov 1921, Mary, Melba Jean in Aug 1925, Reed Murdoch in Sep 1927, and Joy in Jan 1930. In the 1930 U.S. census, the family was living on Side Street N.S. in Hinckley, Millard, Utah. They owned their farm, and George was a general farmer. Their children were Delna, 16, Norma, 14, Walker D., 11, George L., 9, Florence, 8, Mary, 6, Melba Jean, 4, Reid M., 2, and Joy, 3 months. All but the youngest three children attended school. George and Clara had two more sons. Duane Walker was born in Nov 1932, and Carl Don in May 1937. Their son Walker Duncan died in Nov 1932. In the 1940 U.S. census, George L. Stewart and his wife Clara W. Stewart were living in Hinckley, Millard, Utah. They owned their farm, valued at $1,500., and were living in the same house as in 1935. George was a farmer, had completed four years of high school, and had earned $240. in 1939. Clara had completed one year of college. The children at home were G. Lyle, 20, one year of college, working as a high school janitor, and had earned $175. in 1939; Florence, 18, three years of high school; Mary, 16, one year of high school, working as a janitor for the church school, and had earned $5. in 1939; Melba Jean, 14, 8th grade; Reed M., 12, 6th grade; Joy, 10, 4th grade; Duane W., 7; and Don, 2. All of the children except Don attended school. In the 1942 World War II draft registration, George Lyle Stewart, Sr., 53, and Clara W. Stewart were living in Hinckley, Millard, Utah. George was self-employed. George Lyle Stewart, age 70, died 20 Nov 1959 in the L.D.S. Hospital, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah. Cause of death was Uremia, due to Glomerulonephritis. He was buried 23 Nov 1959 in the Hinckley Cemetery, Hinckley, Millard, Utah. Clara May Walker Stewart died 20 Jul 1978. She was buried 22 Jul 1978 with her husband in the Hinckley Cemetery. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
