Notes: H.J. Olson and Amy Noble were married Wednesday, 20 Jun 1906 in the Noble family residence in Ontario, San Bernardino, California. The Rev. Ralph B. Larkin presided over the Episcopal ceremonmy, attended by many friends and relatives. After a wedding luncheon, the couple left on the evening train for Los Angeles and the beaches. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Their first home was at 326 North Wilson Avenue, Alhambra, Los Angeles, California,
which Henry had built in 1905. Their son Donald Keith was born in Mar 1907. Henry was already a
member of the First Presbyterian Church of Alhambra, and Amy became a member in Jan 1908. In the 1910 U.S. census, Henry J. Olson, 30, and Amy Noble Olson, 29, were living at at 326 Wilson, Alhambra, with their son Donald Keith, 3. Henry was the manager of the Alhambra Planing Mill, and their home was owned free of mortgage. The newspapers reported many family birthday parties for Donald, his cousins, and their little friends. Their daughter Agnes Wilma was born in Oct 1911. The family is shown at the left in 1908, after the birth of Agnes in 1911, and at Laguna Beach in 1916. In the 1920 U.S. census, the Henry J. Olson, 39, and Amy N., 38, were still in their home on North Wilson, Alhambra. Henry was the manager of the planing mill. Donald K., 12, and Agnes W., 8, were both attending Garfield Avenue elementery school. About 1922, Henry built the Olson residence at 420 North Second Street, Alhambra. In 1925, he also built their vacation cabin in the village at Mt. Baldy, in the nearby San Gabriel Mountains. The family was already spending many summer days in Mt. Baldy, as seen at the right. Their beloved daughter Agnes Wilma became ill with tuberculosis in October 1928 and died in January 1929, just months short of her high school graduation. She is buried in what became the Olson family plot in the San Gabriel Cemetery. In the 1930 U.S. census, Henry J. Olson, 50, and Amy N., 49, were living at 420 N. Second Street, Alhambra. They owned their home, valued at $12,000. and had a radio set. He was the proprietor of a planing mill. In the household was their son, Donald K., 23, his mother Mary Olson, 74, and a nephew, Maurice Noble, 25. Donald was going to the California Institute of Technology at Pasadena, and later took over the planing mill when Henry died. Henry died at home on 9 May 1934 at the age of 54; cause of death was renal tuberculosis. At the the time of his death he was the proprietor of the Alhambra Planning Mill. He is buried in the Olson family plot in the San Gabriel Cemetery, San Gabriel, California. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
