Notes: John (#3) and Mary Ann moved from Missouri to Benton County, Arkansas, probably late in 1879. Their son Edward was born in Arkansas in October 1879 — probably in Benton County.

In the 1880 U.S. census, John McFarren, 39, and his wife Mary A., 36, were living in the Big Spring Twp., Benton, Arkansas. John was a farmer and Mary was keeping house. Their children were Harriet Z., 16, at home; Geo F., 13, and Benjamin, 11, both working on the farm; and Della M., 8, Pheby J., 6, William H., 4, and Eddie W., 7 months.

Their next son Exie was born in Benton County, Arkansas, in April 1882 — too late for inclusion in the 1880 census. The family probably then moved to Carroll County, Arkansas, between 1882 and 1885.
