Notes: John McFarren married Mary Ann Jackson on 23 Nov 1860 in Liberty Twp., Wells County, Indiana.
The family moved from Indiana to Northern Missouri (in 1864), then Nebraska, then
Southern Missouri, then Arkansas, and then to Oklahoma in the mid to late 1890s. In the 1865 Nebraska census, John McFarren, 24, and his wife Mary A., 21, were living in Otoe County, Nebraska. Their children were Loiza (Louisa), 3, and Harriet, 1. Also in the county were his parents, John and Elizabeth. In the 1870 U.S. census, John "McFenni", 31, and his wife Mary, 26, were living in Avoca Precinct, Cass, Nebraska. The Post Office was Factoryville. John was a farmer, and had a personal estate of $900. Their children were Levisa (Louisa), 9, Harriet, 7, Franklin, 5, and Benjamin, 1. In the 1880 U.S. census, John "McFerren", 39, a farmer, and his wife Mary A., 36, keeping house, were living in Big Spring, Benton, Arkansas. Their children at home were Harriet Z., 16, Geor F., 13, farm worker, Benjamin L., 11, farm worker, Della M., 8, Pheby J., 6, William H., 4, and Eddie W., 7 months. In the 1900 U.S. census, John McFarren, 59, a farmer, and his wife Mary A., 55, were living in the Noble Twp., Cleveland, Oklahoma. Their children at home were Edward, a farmer laborer, and Theodore, 14, in school. in Jan 1902, John and Mary Ann traveled back to Liberty Center, Wells, Indiana, for a Jackson family reunion. In the 1910 U.S. census, John McFarren, 69, and Mary, 66, were living in Red River Twp., Searcy, Arkansas. It was in the Ozark National Forest Reserve. John was "house" farming on his own account, and they owned the farm free of mortgage. In the household was a granddaughter, May McFarren, 12. John and Mary moved to California about 1915. Mary Ann McFarren died 7 Dec 1917 in Holtville, Imperial, California. John McFarren died 11 Mar 1922 in Holtville, Imperial, California. They are buried in the Evergreen Cemetery, El Centro, Imperial, California. The birth places listed below further illustrate the travels of this family during their childbearing years.
