Notes: The Rev. Matthew Williams married Elizabeth Parkhill about 1807 in Pennsylvania. Their
exact residence through the years varies from the census records, biographies, and land deeds.
Named places included Butler County, Pine Creek, West Deer Twp., and Richland Twp., Allegheny
County.
Between 1807 and 1824, they had eleven children. The exact order of the children, and
their dates of birth are uncertain. John was probably
the youngest.
In the 1820 USA census, Matthew Williams is enumerated in the Deer Township, Allegheny County.
The census records two adults over 25 years, three males under 15 years, and four females under
15 years.
Elizabeth was often left alone for days while Matthew was away on the circuit preaching.
He died 11 Sep 1828, and Elizabeth was left to raise her young family alone. In the
1840 USA census Elizabeth is enumerated in the West Deer Township, Allegheny County.
The census records one adult (Elizabeth) over age 59 - 59 years, three males 20 - 29 years,
two males 15 - 19, 1 female 20 - 29, and 1 female 10 - 14.
