Notes: When Abraham Haley moved his wife Marion and three oldest children to Logan Twp.,
Ottawa Kansas about 1870, they built a dugout to live in. Later they built a stone house.
Their homestead was located on the southeast quarter of Sec. 30, eight miles northeast of Minneapolis.
In the 1875 Kansas State census, Ottawa, Logan Twp., A. Haley, 31, farmer, born in Canada, and M. Haley, 30,
housekeeper, born in Canada, had five children. These were N. Haley, 10, laborer, W. Haley, 7, and
M. Haley, 5, born in Canada; and R.M. Haley, 3, and A.M. Haley, 2 months, born in Kansas.
Enumerated in the 1880 U.S. census, Logan Twp., were Abram Haley, 36, farmer, and Marion, 32, keeping house.
The children were James, 14, William, 12, and Minnie, 10, all attending school; and Rosa, 7, Hattie, 5,
Elizabeth, 3, and Susan, 5 months.
Enumerated in the 1885 Kansas State census, Logan Twp., were A. Haley, 41, M. Haley, 39, N. Haley, 19,
Wm. Haley, 17, Minnie Haley, 15, R. Haley, 12, E. Haley, 8, H. Haley, 3, and E. Haley, 1.
Enumerated in the 1895 Kansas State census, Logan Twp., were Abraham Haliy, 51, farmer, M.J. Haliy, 49,.
N. Haley, 29, agl labor, E.J. Haliy, 18, N.P. Haliy, 13, and E. Haliy, 10. Three of the children
are no longer living at home.
In the 1900 U.S. census, Logan Twp., Abraham Haley, 56, born Jun 1843, owned the farm, free of mortgage,
had immigrated to the U.S. in 1870, and was a naturalized citizen. His wife, Marion, 54, born
Sep 1845, had also immigrated in 1870. They had been married 35 years, and had had twelve children,
seven of whom were then living. The two children living at home were Nicholas J., 34, born Aug 1865,
a farmer, immigrated in 1870, and a naturalized citizen, and Ethel G., 15, born Feb 1885 in Kansas,
attending school.
Enumerated in the 1905 Kansas census, Logan Twp., were Abre Haley, 61, farmer, Marion Haley, 59,
and N.J., 39. |
