Notes: According to family records, Jakob Felix was born 4 February 1861 in Oberwangen, Fischingen,
Thurgau, Switzerland. His parents were Johannes Felix and Anna Barbara Buchegger. Anna Maria
Elizabetha Mohr (known as Elizabeth) was born 18 Apr 1865 in Wallenstadth, Wallenstadth, Sankt Gallen,
Switzerland. Her parents were Fritz Karl Mohr and Anna Katharino Kessler. Jakob Felix married
Elizabeth Mohr on 29 Oct 1885 in Walenstadt, Sankt Gallen, Switzerland. They had a family of fourteen
children. Originally Lutheran, the family joined the Latter Day Saints church about 1892. In 1899, their oldest son Jacob Felix, age 12, was sent to America to live with the Frank Walker family in Hinckley, Millard, Utah. In 1906, Jakob, 45, and Elizabeth, 41, with nine children, enbarked on their journey to America. They sailed on 30 Jun 1906 from Havre, France, aboard the S.S. La Touraine, arriving in the Port of New York on 8 Jul 1906. The children were Herminia, 18, Elisa, 14, Adolf, 14 Ernst, 10, Anna, 8, Robert, 7, Walter, 4, Karl, 3, and Martha, 1. The family settled in Rexburg, Fremont*, Idaho. Here their last daughter Clara was born in 1908. Jakob became ill with typhoid, and died of pneumonia on 14 October 1909 in Rexburg. He is buried in the Rexburg Cemetery, Rexburgh, Idaho. In the 1910 U.S. census, the Felix family was living on 4th West Street, Rexburg, Fremont, Idaho. Elizabeth Felix, 45, a widow listed as head of the household, had had 14 children, 11 of them then living. Their house was owned with a mortgage. The children were Eliza, 16, a servant in a private home; Adolph, 15, Ernest, 14, Annie, 12, Robert, 11, and Carl, 8, all attending school; and Martha 5, and Clara 2. Elizabeth moved the family to Logan, Cache, Utah, with a residence on North Main Street. On 21 Apr 1913, she signed her Declaration of Intention to become a U.S. citizen. She described herself as a housekeeper, white with dark complexion, 5 feet 5 inches, 120 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. In the 1920 U.S. census, Elizabeth, 54, was enumerated at 870 North Main Street, Logan, Cache, Utah. She owned her home free of mortgage, and had become a naturalized citizen in 1916. The children at home were Ernest, 23, naturalized in 1916, and a salesman in a butcher shop; Karl, 17, and Martha, 14, both naturalized citizens; and Clara, 11. The younger three attended school. In the 1930 U.S. census, Elizabeth, 65, was living with her youngest son, Carl O. Felix, 28, on North 1st East, Logan, Cache, Utah. Carl owned the home, valued at $2,500, there was a radio set, and Elizabeth was paying $5. rent. Carl was a mail carrier in Logan City. His wife was Claris F., 24, and son Joseph C., 2, had both been born in Utah. Family records report that Leola Felix lived with her grandmother Elizabeth at 422 North 4th East, Logan, Utah, while attending Utah State from 1935 to 1937. In the 1940 U.S. census, Elizabeth M., 74, was living alone in the rear apartment at 226 North Second East, Logan, Cache, Utah. The rent was $14. monthly, and she had completed 8th grade. The Logan City Directories list her address from 1955 to 1959 as 337 E. 2nd North, which may have been the Sunshine Terrace nursing home. Elizabeth died 21 Aug 1961 at the age of 96 at Sunshine Terrace, 307 E. 2nd North, Logan. She had suffered from gall bladder problems, and cause of death was stomach hemorrhage. She is buried in the Logan City Cemetery, Logan, Utah. *Rexburg, Idaho, was in the County of Fremont until the County of Madison was formed in 1913. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
