Notes: Hosea Leon Walker was born 9 May 1906 in Hinckley, Millard, Utah. He was the fourth of twelve children for George Henry Walker and Alice Louisa Stout. He was delivered by his grandmother, C.L. Stout, a midwife. She died three months later, in Aug 1906. Only on his birth certificate is his middle name spelled 'Leone'.
Hosea had an older sister Rela, born in 1899, and older brothers Leslie George, born in 1902, Reed in 1904,
and two younger brothers, Alma Leo, born in 1908, and Orson Whitney in 1910. In the 1910 U.S. census,
Hosea was living with his family on their own farm in Hinckley, Millard, Utah.
His father George was a general farmer, farming on his own account. The children were Rulie (Rela), 10,
Leslie G., 8, Reed C., 6, Hosea L., 4, and Alma L., 1 month. Also in the household was James H. Hepworth,
13, a cousin. Rela, Leslie and James had attended school. Alma Leo died in 1911 from bronchial pneumonia following the measles. Jay Everett was born in 1912, Elizabeth in 1914, Rolf Stout in 1916, and Ned Stout in 1918. Rolf died in 1919 of pernicous anemia. In the 1920 U.S. census, Hinckley, Hosea's family was enumerated in a house, not on a farm. His father George was a salesman for a lumber company. The children were Rela, 20, Leslie G., 18, in school, Reed C., 15, in school, Hosea L., 13, in school, Orson W., 9, in school, Everett, 7, Elizabeth, 5, and Ned S., 1. Following that census, Karl Francis and Floyd Henry were added to the family. Hosea's father George Henry Walker died 21 Aug 1927, following gall bladder surgery, and his sister Rela died of apoplexy in 1928 in the Utah State Hospital. His sister Elizabeth also died in the Utah State Hospital, of lombar pneumonia in 1930. In the 1930 U.S. census, Hinckley, Hosea's mother Alice, 49, now widowed was head of the household. The brothers at home were Reed C., 25, Hosea, 23, Ned S., 11, and Karl F., 8. The three younger brothers were attending school. Hosea married Torma Andrus on 31 Mar 1933 in Cedar City, Iron, Utah. They moved to California, and were living in Anaheim, Orange County, in 1935. In the 1940 U.S. census, Hosea, 32, and Torma, 25, were living at 690 North 8th Street, Colton, San Bernardino, California. They were renting for $15.00 per month. Hosea was a bookeeper in the cement industry, and had earned $700. the prior year. He had completed three years of college. Their daughter Joan was one year old. The 1940 City Directories differ slighty, listing the family at 691 North 8th Street, Colton, and listing Hosea as a beekeeper, which was an occupation shared by his brother Reed. Hosea and Torma moved to Northern California, where Hosea worked first for the Coca Cola Bottling Company in Marysville, then for the Pepsi Cola Bottling Company in Yuba City. The City Directories, from 1944 through 1954, list his rise from salesman to foreman, plant manager, and supervisor. Their residence was at 676 Olive, Yuba City, California. The 1954 City Directory lists Hosea alone at their home address. This must be about the time the couple divorced. Hosea married Etha B., some time before 1964, when they appear together in the City Directories. Hosea is listed as retired, and their home address is 528 Scott Street, Yuba City, California. Hosea died 10 Feb 1972, in Sutter County, California, his last residence being in Yuba City, Sutter. He was buried 14 Feb 1972 in Sutter Cemetery, Sutter, Sutter, California.
