Notes: Rupert Harold Smith married Vesta Mary Durst on 5 Oct 1920
at the home of her parents in Delphos, Ottawa, Kansas. In the 1925 Kansas State census, Rupert and Vesta
were living in Sheridan Twp., Ottawa, Kansas. They had a son, Ivan, age 2.
The family was renting, and Rupert was a grain farmer. Enumerated adjacent to the
family were her parents, R.L. and Louie M. Durst, and nearby,
his parents, Horace T. and Elizabeth J. Smith.
In the 1930 U.S. census, Rupert and Vesta were still renting, and
owned a radio set. Their children were Ivan, 7, and Lois 3. Rupert
was farming on his own account. In the 1940 U.S. census, Rupert and Vesta,
were still renting, and Rupert was farming on his own account. Ivan, 17 was now
farming, and Lois was in school.
In 1952, Rupert and Vesta moved into Delphos. Rupert became sexton of the
Delphos Cemetery. In Sep 1970, their children helped them celebrate their 50th
wedding anniversary with a open house at the Delphos United Methodist Church.
Vesta died 3 Sep 1979, and is buried in the Delphos Cemetery,
Ottawa, Kansas. Rupert died 12 Aug 1991, and is buried with his wife. Their
last residence was Delphos, Ottawa, Kansas. |
