Notes: In the 1900 U.S. census, Horace Smith, 25, and his wife Elizabeth (Lizzie J.), 22, were
living in Logan Twp., Ottawa, Kansas. They had been married three years and their
son Rupert was 1 year old. Horace was farming on leased land. The 1902
County Land Ownership maps show a H.T. Smith owning land in nearby Blaine Twp., but it
is unknown if this is the same person.
In the 1905 Kansas Census, Horace, 31, and Elizabeth, 27, were living in Pleasant
Valley Twp., Saline County*, Kansas. Rupert, 6, now had two sisters, Ruth, 3,
and Florence, 2.
In the 1910 U.S. census, the family is found back in Logan Twp., Ottawa County.
Three more children had been added, namely Esther,4, Lester, 2, and Gertrude, 2 months.
*According to Elizabeth's obituary, the family spent 8
years farming in Saline County. |
