Marion and Abe had a total of twelve children. Nicholas James was born 7 Aug
1865, William Henry, 24 Jul 1867, and Marion Agnes (Minnie), 27 Jul
1869. All three were probably born in Fullarton Twp. In late 1870, the
family moved to Kansas, settling on a homestead in Logan Township, Ottawa
County, eight miles northeast of Minneapolis. Their first home was a sod dugout,
but Abe later built a stone house. The rest of the children were born in Logan Twp, Ottawa, Kansas. Mary Rosa (Rose) was born in Jul 1873, Hannah Maria (Hattie), 15 Feb 1875, Elizabeth Jane, 27 Dec 1877, and Susan May, 13 Dec 1879. There was also an unnamed child that died. In the 1880 U.S.census, the family consisted of Nicholas, William, Minnie, Rose, Hattie, Elizabeth, and Susan age 5 months. Susan died later that same year. John Alexander and Nettie Pauline, twins, were born 12 Dec 1881. John died 30 Jul 1882. Hattie had died in Dec 1881. Ethel G. was born 10 Feb 1884. Their last son, Abraham Earl was born 13 Feb 1888, but died in November of that same year. By the 1900 U.S. census, Abe and Marion had only two children living at home, Nicholas and Ethel. Abe and Nicholas were both listed as farmers. Abe owned the farm free of a mortgage. Marion had had twelve children, but now only seven were still living. It was about 1909 that Abe and Marion moved into the town of Minneapolis. Their son William died 15 Aug 1909. In the 1910 U.S. census, they were living on Third Street, Minneapolis. Only Nicholas was living with them. Abe died 27 Aug 1915, and Nicholas died 6 Dec 1918. When Marion died 30 Sep 1920, she had five children still living, sixteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Abe and Marion are buried in the family plot in the Highland Cemetery located about 1/2 mile east of Minneapolis. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
